Ensemble Academy

Goals of the Ensemble Academy

Located within the border triangle of Germany – France – Switzerland, the Ensemble Academy has had a permanent location at the foot of the southern Black Forest in Freiburg im Breisgau since the opening of the Ensemblehaus in 2012. The Ensemble Academy is a joint institution of the two internationally renowned and specialized ensembles Freiburger Barockorchester and ensemble recherche. The academy aims to combine the two ensembles’ focal points in early and contemporary music and thus to be a forum for exchange.

Academy week in ensemble playing of early and contemporary music

A central component of the Ensemble Academy is the Academy Week for the performance practice of early and contemporary music, which has been held annually since 2004 during one week in September. They are aimed at professional musicians as well as advanced students who are interested in playing in ensembles and who wish to spend a week of intensive study of baroque to classical and contemporary music.

Further events

In addition to the master classes, the Academy organizes public concerts and events for an interested public, in which members of the two ensembles perform together and foreign guests reflect on the differences and similarities of early and contemporary music in the broadest sense.
