Academy Week 2025

Applications

The Ensemble Academy 2025 will take place from 1-6 September 2025. Applications can be submitted via Muvac from 1 May to 15 June.

Organisational details: What can the participants expect during Academy Week?

The Academy Week 2025 will take place from 1 to 6 September in Freiburg. The Freiburg Baroque Orchestra’s baroque course includes an orchestra course, while the Ensemble Recherche’s contemporary course includes a chamber music course. Both specialisations will be complemented by individual lessons and joint workshops. The musical results will be presented to the public in a final concert.

You can register for the Ensemble Recherche course as an existing ensemble, even if you are still in the formation phase. However, individual registrations are also possible. You are welcome to suggest chamber music pieces that you would like to work on. Otherwise we will select the repertoire for you. If you register as an ensemble, you will receive a group discount (course fee: 300 euros per person).

In the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, all participants will be divided into two orchestral groups. The prerequisite here is experience in making music on a historical instrument (concert pitch 415 Hz). You must bring your own historical instrument (harpsichords are provided).

Who are we trying to reach with Academy-Week?

We are looking for advanced music students as well as professional musicians who are interested in ensemble performance and would like to spend a week of intensive study of music, from baroque to classical and/or contemporary.

The Academy-Week offers two tracks of study: ensemble performance of baroque to classical chamber music and ensemble performance of contemporary music. All participants are invited to attend both classes offered by Freiburger Barockorchester as well as Ensemble Recherche, although you are just as welcome to register for only one of the two courses. In both cases a participation fee of €350 applies.

What can you expect during Academy-Week?

Both tracks offer a minimum of two individual lessons à 45 min, rehearsals in chamber music, as well as joint workshops for all participants. At the end of the week, participants will get the chance to present the results of their work in a public performance.

Admission fees

Active participation: €350

Active Participation as an ensemble: €300 p.P.

Passive Participation: €200

Application process

Due to the limited number of places, participants will be chosen for active participation based on artistic ability.

Please hand in your application by June 15, 2024. You can register online via Muvac.

A video recording documenting your skills is expected with your application. You are free to choose the piece, but it should be either contemporary music (Ensemble Recherche course) or baroque music on a historical instrument (Freiburg Baroque Orchestra course). Please upload at least one video from each period if you are applying for both course specialisations.

We are looking forward to your application!
